ARRIVING AND DEPARTING
GETTING TO 99 BARMOUTH BAY
BY ROAD: The postcode of the Barmouth Bay Away Days site is LL43 2BJ. If you are arriving from Barmouth on the A496, turn left just as you enter Tal-Y-Bont and before you go over the small bridge. Go down the lane. The site is the last turning on the right signposted Away Resorts. The caravan is about 100 yards from the entrance on the right.
If travelling from Bristol, my favourite route is through mid Wales: Bristol-Abergavenny-Talgarth. Then take the A470 to Builth Wells-Rhyader-Llanidloes. I prefer to get off the A470 at Llanidloes and go through the village and over the mountain on the B4518, rejoining the A470 at Llanbrynmair. Follow the A470 to Dolgellau. You then have a choice of heading to Barmouth on the north side of the Mawddach Estuary or following the river on the south side and going over the toll bridge at Penmaenpool (my preferred route). Check bridge opening times here.
BREAK YOUR JOURNEY: My favourite places to stop for a sandwich are at the wonderful Tretower Court and Castle near Crickhowell (it may be worth joining Cadw if you plan to go here and visit other castles on your holiday); at the at Gilfach Nature Reservejust north of Rhyader and at the picnic spot overlooking Llyn Clywedog to the north of Llanidloes
BY TRAIN: There’s a station at Tal-y-Bont about a 25-minute walk from the site. If travelling from Bristol Temple Meads, you can either go to Birmingham New Street and get the train to Pwllheli or go Bristol-Newport-Shrewsbury and pick up the Pwllheli train.
KEYS AND PARKING
The keys to the caravan are in a keysafe by the front door. You will receive the code for the keysafe when your first payment is made and a reminder two days before your booking. There are two keys. One for the front door and one for the storage unit where you fill find chairs and a table for sitting outside. There is enough room to park two cars (three at a squeeze).
ARRIVAL AND LEAVING TIMES
Please arrive any time after 1pm and leave by noon. The entry barrier is usually up. If not, the code is always the same as the year. So, at the time of writing, it’s 2026. The exit barrier opens automatically as you approach.
CLEANING
Because 99 Barmouth Bay is only available to friends and family through this website, the caravan won’t be deep-cleaned between arrivals. Just tidy up after yourselves and leave everything as you would like to find it. If you need a vacuum cleaner, it’s in the storage unit.
BEDDING
You can either bring your own bedding or sleeping bags, or use the bedding provided.
